Counting Coffee Cups

I wanted to use Paper Signals for this project but the components weren’t available. Luckily, the design can work in a mechanical way.

I ended up with the prototype that counts the limits coffee intake to 3 cups in a day, and beyond that would just guilt the user!

Working prototype

I used cardboard, and a screw to put it together. The wheel is shaped like a coffee cup.

The user will only be allowed 2 cups per day as a harm reduction effort to ease him in the caffeine intake. The 3rd cup would be considered “dangerous level” for someone who is quitting coffee from 30 cups a week to 15.

Final Prototype

The persona (Marco) requires a way for the user to limit coffee intake to 15 cups a week.

  • This counter will count daily, for upto 3 cups.
  • Each slice represents one cup. I worked on the messaging to represent the number of cups
  • The counter resets once the cup is topsy-turvy showing coffee pouring out

Adding technology: Speech Recognition through Google Assistant

A good use case for adding Google assistant through speech recognition is when a user is thinking of tracking coffee cups consumed at a limited distance. The assistant will record the count, and it syncs to the analog counter. In the same way, it’s sometimes frustrating to open your app to remember this, so an analog counter would be helpful.
