Reflection on Analog Tracking

I think this week’s project captured some patterns of my daily routine which added more to my original perception of just tracking places I go to in a week. I used the second postcard to create an overlapping version of the first individual drawings to compare and evaluate the data comes from the visualization.

The results made me realize that (1) I don’t spend much time meeting people outside of my repetitive routine, and that (2) I buy way too much food outside!

I wish I had more time beforehand to experiment and pivot my idea. I’m always conflicted about tracking now under a broad topic vs letting the idea surface midway the experiment.

  1. I love this project, and your interpretation of the chord diagrams, would be cool to digitize them too. I’m not sure the logic of the default d3 chord diagrams follows your own use case but I like the primer here (though it’s a bit dated now): http://www.delimited.io/blog/2013/12/8/chord-diagrams-in-d3. Interesting observations about the diagrams too, I wonder if you might take those observations and design additional self tracking mechanics that you can continue with throughout the remaining courses, to see if it inspires behavior change.
